Ronda Rousey Announces Desire to Play Captain Marvel
UFC Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has expressed a desire to carry her fighting credentials over to the big screen - Her choice role? Captain Marvel.
Rousey first stated her intentions to play the Marvel Comics superhero during her recent Reddit AMA, when one Reddit user asked if she had any interest in playing such a role. Rousey wasted little time in naming her top pick as Carol Danvers, more prominently known by her many aliases including; Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Warbird and Binary.

A lot of the good ones have been taken, but I'd like to vie for Miss Marvel!
It's certainly an interesting move, and one that has got the online community paying attention. Rousey has branched out into acting before, to mixed reviews, featuring in blockbusters such as Expendables 3 and Furious 7. Nobody can deny that Rousey certainly has the right look, being visually similar to Carol Danvers in many ways. Her obvious fighting merit and highly athletic form would also add an air of believability to a character famed for super-strength, among other talents.
Upon hearing the announcement, loyal fans of Rousey immediately set about trying to make the casting choice happen, mocking up photo-shopped images to display just how well the undefeated UFC champion would appear to fit the role. Rousey promptly shared the images via Instagram and the result is truly remarkable. At the very least, they should force the brains at Marvel Studios to give her some consideration.
Although the film (slated for a 2018 release) is yet to acquire a director, there has been a lot of talk about who should be awarded the title role, so Rousey is not without competition. Other rumoured candidates include: Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard. I for one will be eagerly watching for updates as we get nearer to the films release, and I must admit to being fairly optimistic about Rousey's odds.
