ModCloth Sets Up Pinterest-Inspired Style Gallery
Retro online retailer ModCloth has set up an on-site ‘Style Gallery’, where fans of the brand can post pictures of themselves wearing the latest ModCloth clothing.
Visually, the Style Gallery closely resembles Pinterest, consisting of three columns of photos over a plain background, with users having to scroll down on order to view more images.
Customers are also given the option to “love” the images that are posted by others, as well as being invited to provide feedback. Clicking on any image will break down the outfit featured, with photos and prices for each item.
There are three tabs which allow users to filter the images according to preference: ‘latest’, ‘most loved’ and ‘featured’. The ‘most loved’ image currently has 96 approvals.
ModCloth is hoping to create a brand community spirit with the update, encouraging their customers to treat the site like a social network.
Susan Koger, ModCloth’s co-founder and CCO, hopes that the gallery will become the place where ModCloth’s customers go “to buy stuff but also to be part of the community and feel part of the brand”.
She also revealed that the feature has had immediate success, saying: “we have a percentage of visitors coming more than 10 times per day.”
ModCloth’s feature is similar to a number of social media sites that enjoy the loyalty of a largely female clientele. Pinterest is arguably the progenitor, but new site SkinnyScoop, which targets women specifically, is also garnering a lot of interest.
ModCloth already maintains a considerable social media presence, boasting 1.5 million followers on its Pinterest account alone, but the site intends to improve the Style Gallery further with friending and following capabilities.
At the moment, the Style Gallery is little more than an on-site feature, but if ModCloth continue to improve it then it could become a social media site in its own right. In fact, if the gallery proves a success, it could even have imitators of its own.
