Pinterest Introduces Business Accounts
There is now the option to create a company account on the social pin board, Pinterest.
Pinterest has made some drastic changes to its terms of service so that businesses can have official accounts, completely removing its ban on commercial use.
Business accounts require a company name, as opposed to a first name and surname, and a verification code. Once a company’s website has been verified, their Pinterest page is labelled as authentic.
Like personal pages, business accounts can have Pin It and Follow buttons, as well as widgets, a new feature for both personal and company pages which displays multiple pins in one.
To help businesses new to the site, Pinterest have created a microsite dedicated to teaching businesses how to get the best out of the services provided. Published on the microsite are case studies explaining how companies such as Etsy and Jetsetter have successfully marketed themselves on Pinterest.
For example, Jetsetter’s Curator programme invited people to pin fantastic travel experiences for a chance to win a trip to Bali. Over 50,000 images were pinned in one month, with a 150% increase in views of Jetsetter’s page and a 100% increase in click-through rate.
Pinterest executive, Cat Lee, has denied claims that the business account update is Pinterest’s opening gambit into e-commerce, saying, ““This is not about monetization or business models. This is about providing tools and resources to the thousands of businesses on Pinterest.”
However, in the wake of the site’s $1.5 billion valuation, Lee has admitted that when the people behind Pinterest “do introduce a business model, [they] definitely want to design it in a way that makes the user experience better, but this announcement is just about taking that first step.”
