Twitter Update App to Enhance Search and Discover
Twitter have updated their iOS and Android apps to enhance functionality particularly in the Search and Discover areas.
You can now preview article summaries and photos in the Search and Discover without having to tap on those stories to do so.
Mirroring the desktop version, the Discover option on mobiles will now let you discover popular tweets. The ‘View all Tweets’ button will show a stream of news, photos, and stories that have been shared by the people in your network.
The Engineering Manager of Search and Relevance at Twitter, Daniel Loreto, said: "We want Discover to be the place where you find the best of that content relevant to you, even if you don’t necessarily know everyone involved,” in a Twitter blog post. “For this new release, we’ve completely re-done the back end and user interface to take advantage of Twitter cards.”
“Supporting Twitter cards on the back end means we can more directly improve the user experience in our native apps, too,” says Loreto. “All of this adds up to fewer taps, fewer screen views and more content for you to enjoy, faster.”
Twitter cards give the user the ability to bring news and photos into the tweets and make them more interactive.
The Search option in both the app and the website has also been updated to now show both photo and video search results at the top.
Tailored ranking has also been introduced in the search results which will help you understand why a certain tweet may be important to you by showing you who has retweeted it or clicked the favourite option.
The updated Twitter iOS and Android apps are available now.
