Social Media Promotions Of The Week: 14/12/2012

Every week, the staff here at Social Media Frontiers choose our favourite social media promotional campaigns, based on their creativity, originality and innovation. This week five campaigns stood out from the rest.

1. Heineken - Meet The World in One City



Beer company Heineken have created a social media campaign where they aim for two men from the UK to meet a person of every nationality in the space of two weeks around the streets of Amsterdam.

The company is using social media as a way for people to connect and contact the pair informing them if someone they know will be there during the space of time allocated to represent a different nationality.

The agency behind the campaign is Tribal DDB Amsterdam with the project ending next week. People can also contact the pair through a dedicated online page.


2. Turkish AirlinesKobe vs Messi: Legends On Board



Turkish Airlines have managed to persuade two of the biggest names in sport to appear in their new viral advert.

In the video, Barcelona talisman Messi competes with Basketball legend Kobe Bryant for the attention of a young signature-seeking fan.

The video, in which both stars prove themselves to be quite funny, has already amassed over 50 million views on YouTube, as well as over 80,000 likes.

3. Marks & SpencerThanks A Million



Department store Marks & Spencer are celebrating reaching 1 million fans by donating £10,000 to charity: a penny for each fan.

For the next three weeks, fans will be able to go on a Facebook app and choose between four charities – The Royal British Legion, MacMillan Cancer Care, Shelter and the Newlife Foundation – to donate 1p to.

Fans can even donate from their mobile devices by clicking on an alternate link to the donation page.

4. SPAMSpam Christmas Cracker

SPAM unveils Christmas cracker Facebook app

A Facebook app created by iProspect and designed by Kerbang is helping SPAM to get into the Christmas spirit.

The app allows users to pull a cracker to be entered into a prize draw which will eventually lead to 12 winners who will each receive a stocking filled with branded goods as well as a supermarket voucher.

The promotion closes on the 18th of December with winners being announced via the Facebook page on the 19th.

5. Skoda UK - Thanks Dad



Skoda UK have combined with The Axis of Awesome, a musical comedy act from Australia, to give users a way to thank their dads this Christmas and to promote their new car, the Skoda Rapid.

Developed by ais London, users need to go to the Skoda UK Facebook page and answer a series of short questions to find a personalised video with edited lyrics performed by the Australians.

The video can then be emailed to the user’s dad and shared online. But with many Facebook users not having their dad within their social media connections, this may prove difficult.
