Yahoo Update Flickr iOS App And Yahoo Mail
Only two days after CEO Marissa Mayer announced the release of a new email service on the Yahoo! blog, an improved Flickr photo-sharing service has been released for the iPhone.
After taking customer feedback, Yahoo! Mail has been updated for the first time in over a year, with simplicity and speed paramount to the service: “We’ve redesigned the new version of Yahoo! Mail with speed in mind”, wrote Mayer, “getting through your emails is faster than ever before.”
Mayer also highlighted the importance of accessibility on mobile devices, saying, “because mobile is everything these days, Yahoo! Mail now has a consistent look and feel across devices.”
In order to compete with rival photo-sharing service Instagram, who updated their photo-sharing service last week, Yahoo! have followed up the email update with a Flickr revamp for the iPhone.
Like Yahoo! Mail, the Flickr service has been simplified for ease of use. The app also has a brand new modern look, which takes a lot of inspiration from both the new Instagram app and Flickr’s android app which was released in August.
The app, which can be instantly accessed with a users Yahoo! or Facebook account (There is also the option to login with a Google+ account, but not on the first screen), has a pop up guide to help first-timers navigate their way around, with hints and suggestions such as “Did you know? Double tap on a photo to quickly fave it!”
The app has 16 new photo filters, as well as a number of features which before were only available online, such as Groups. User profiles have been completely updated also, with Contacts, Groups, Favourites, Sets and Photos Of all instantly available.
The app is yet to be released on the iPad.
