Foursquare Launches “The Best Of Foursquare”
Foursquare has created “The Best of…” lists for 30 major American cities, compiling data that includes almost 30 billion check-ins from over 30 million users worldwide.
Foursquare has taken into account comments, likes, dislikes, local expertise, popularity and many other factors to produce lists of the top ten places for food, nightlife and things to do, as well as another category specific to each city.
The cities chosen are as follows, with their special category beside them:
“One of the things our data shows is how each city is unique”, says the Foursquare blog. “Bostonians love seafood, Portland is a veggie paradise, and Philly may be the city of brotherly love, but what they really love is a good sandwich. Since no two cities are the same, each page is customized to help you get a feel for the local [flavour].”
Each of the first three categories – Food, Nightlife and Things to Do – has a list of subcategories beneath, again specific to the city.
So, for example, visitors to San Francisco can choose between five tabs when deciding on something to do: Great Outdoors, Entertainment, Museums, Bookstores and Performing Arts.
However, travellers on holiday in Las Vegas who want a break from the casinos only have Entertainment, Great Outdoors and Performing Arts to choose from as an alternative.
Businesses who have made the top ten lists can download a badge from Foursquare to honour the achievement.
What do you think of Fousquare’s “Best of…” Lists? Do you agree? Should they extend it to include more cities and countries?
