Facebook Announces Mobile DevCon 2013
On Tuesday, Facebook announced that it will be holding Mobile DevCon 2013: three separate conferences for Facebook Mobile app developers in New York, London and Seoul.
During each conference, there will be talks for iOS, Android and Mobile Web developers – as well as for Product Managers – about how to get the most out of Facebook Mobile and its app developing tools. The talks will cover “Open Graph, social games, Mobile App Install Ads, and mobile SDKs”, reads the event page on the Facebook Developers site, “but the focus is [on] helping [developers] grow [their] apps. In addition, there will be sessions on how” in-house Facebook developers build their own mobile apps.
Facebook has been working on its apps for all mobile devices incessantly over the last year, after it became obvious that the future would be mobile: Facebook overtook Google Maps as the most popular mobile app in the US in December and, now, Facebook Mobile has over 680 million active users worldwide, a number which is steadily growing. Facebook has even designed its new News Feed with mobile in mind, taking inspiration from the current mobile interface and incorporating it into the desktop service, so that the News Feed is consistent across all devices.
Here is Facebook’s list on the Developers Blog of what attendees will learn at the conference:
There will also be talks at each conference by representatives from companies which have already had a modicum of success in partnership with Facebook: speakers from Fab.com, GetGlue, Zeebox and EyeEm will all be describing their own experiences building and developing apps for mobile.
“Facebook has had an exciting couple of years in mobile — we have rebuild our iOS, Android apps and mobile web apps, and retooled our entire business around mobile,” said Facebook representative James Pearce in a video posted on the Facebook Developers blog, “What we know is that thousands — and, in fact, millions — of developers around the world are going through a similar transition right now and are looking at mobile and trying to understand what it means to them. And we want to have the opportunity to come out and meet those developers, and talk about some of our experiences and talk about how Facebook can help those developers become successful.”
Mobile DevCon 2013 will be the first developers conference since 2011, but it is as yet unclear whether it will become an annual occurrence or not. A full schedule of each conference can be viewed on the events page and you can pre-register now.
