Social Media Promotions Of The Week: 08/03/13
Every Friday, the staff here at Social Media Frontiers chose the five best marketing campaigns from the past week. The innovation, success and simplicity of each promotion is taken into account. Here are this week’s SMPWs:
1. Budweiser – #tothedream
FA Cup sponsor Budweiser is asking football fans across the country to send in their photos taken during FA cup ties. The best photos will be collated and included in a 120 second advert celebrating the FA Cup.
Football fans can send their photos to Budweiser’s Facebook page or submit them via Twitter by following the account @BudweiserUK and tweeting with the hashtag #tothedream.
The photos can be viewed on a Facebook app, on ESPN.co.uk or on talksport.co.uk.. Entrants must be over 18 to enter and must send their photos in by April 26th.
The advert will be shown during the last ad break before The FA Cup Final kicks off on Saturday 11 May.
2. Three – The Pony #DancePonyDance
Telecommunications company 3 have topped the viral video chart in the UK with an advert featuring a plucky moonwalking pony.
On YouTube, fans of the dancing pony can customise the moonwalking star with outfits and music, creating a unique music video.
Viewers are invited to share their videos, or talk about the advert on Twitter, using the hashtag #DancePonyDance.
The video currently has just under 4 million views on YouTube.
3. Pizza Hut – Wanted: Manager of Digital Greatness
Pizza Hut is looking for a new social media manager, one who is capable of proven their worth in 140 seconds – the same number of characters that tweets on Twitter are limited to.
The fast food restaurant chain has posted a video on YouTube, asking for applicants who consider themselves social media mavens.
Interviews for the position will take place on March 10th in a Texan branch of Pizza Hut.
4. Oreo – Separator Machine 1
In the never-ending struggle between cookie and cream, fans of both have exhausted themselves trying to prove their preferred choice the best.
Physicist David Neevel has created a machine to separate the cookie from the cream and then scrub the cookie clean – needless to say, he is not a fan of cream.
The video, which shows the machine in action, has almost 4 million views on YouTube.
5. Just Eat – Kidnap
A posse of fast food cooks from restaurant website Just Eat have kidnapped TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson and are holding him for ransom.
In the original advert, which was shown during an ad break on Saturday between instalments of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, the posse of chefs threaten to keep Anthony Worrall Thompson until he promises to stop teaching the public how to cook.
Just Eat has spent £1 million creating a multi-media campaign, using Twitter and Facebook to drive traffic, as well as posting videos on YouTube.
For the whole of this week, people have been able to go to a dedicated microsite to follow AWT’s plight. Just Eat also posted a banner on YouTube inviting people to slap him in the face.
The hostage situation will reach a climax on Saturday.
