Social Media Promotions Of The Week: 26/04/13
This weeks SMPW only has three promotions, I’m afraid. There are three viral videos in this week’s SMPW chart, one of which shows a innovative new way of making Facebook friends. Here are the three:
1. Kmart – Ship My Pants
Kmart’s new viral advert, which has already amassed over 15 million views and 70,000 likes on YouTube, makes use of a clever pun to advertise the fact that shoppers can get any Kmart product they want shipped to their local store.
The happy customers featured in the advert have already shipped their pants, shipped their drawers, and shipped a bed. The title, “Ship my Pants”, sounds a lot like something you wouldn’t want to do in a Kmart, finding humour in the similarity of the two phrases.
2. Budweiser – The Buddy Cup
With Budweiser’s “Buddy Cup” people who meet in a pub can become Facebook friends with a simple clink. The “Buddy Cup” contains a chip which users can connect to their Facebook account. Strangers can then become friends instantly by clinking their cups.
The “Buddy Cup” will feature at Budweiser branded parties and events, increasing the attendees social media interaction during and afterwards. Sadly, I don’t think the cup will make it into general circulation, but if you are going to a Budweiser event soon, why not test one out.
3. LG – Stage Fright
Electronics company LG has pulled a number of internet pranks to show off how realistic their HD displays can look. The company’s elevator prank, for example, has been viewed over 18 million times on YouTube.
Using a high-definition new screen, LG has decided to test the legend that men can’t urinate while someone is watching. Screens are placed above urinals displaying banner advertisements. The advertisements are then ripped away to reveal models smiling and distracting the man trying to use the urinal beneath. Each man reacts differently, with some unable to go, while others seem encouraged by the attention.
The video already has over 3 million views and almost 6 thousand likes on YouTube.
