Facebook Now Verifies Accounts
Five years after Twitter launched an account verification service, Facebook has done the same, allowing companies and celebrities to display a verification badge on their page.
Verified accounts display a white tick within a small white circle alongside the page owner’s name, not only on the page itself, but also in search results.
According to TechCrunch, users don’t need to apply for verification: if they fit Facebook’s criteria for entry, they will receive a notification informing them that their page has been verified by Facebook, and the circle logo will appear.
As on Twitter, Facebook Verified Pages will only be made available “to a small group of public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences. This update is rolling out to profiles as well.”
