Social Media Promotions Of The Week 24/05/2013

Though not all strictly promotions, there are some brilliantly innovative uses of social media featured in this week’s SMPW. Be warned though: the promotion featured second on the list is not for the squeamish. Here are the five top SMPWs this week:

1. Zartis – Job Advert

Screen Shot 2013 05 22 at 4.48.00 PM Check out the worlds first job ad integrated into Twitter. Lets candidates apply without leaving the site.
Earlier this week Twitter released the new lead generation card, a new Twitter card that allowed users to respond to promotional offer tweets without leaving the site.

Someone at recruitment software company Zartis has thought up a novel use for the feature, using it to advertise a job opening in Ireland with Demonware, a household name in the video game industry.

Zartis CEO John Dennehy
told The Next Web about the advert’s success: “I can tell you without any doubt: we’ve got a better response to the Twitter ad tonight than anything we’ve ever seen.”

2. Rhett and Link – Cracked Chiropractor Commercial

Be warned, this video is not for the squeamish! Yet, despite its visceral sound effects (though I have no doubt that they are real clicks), this video has taken YouTube by storm, earning over 4 million views.

The creators, Rhett and Link, host a popular YouTube channel with over 1 million subscribers. The chiropractor in the starring role, Ryan Lee, may or may not get more custom due to the video… What do you think?

3. Kmart – Big Gas Savings

After the success of their recent “ship my pants” commercial, Kmart has decided to post another pun-tastic advert on YouTube. In the video above, people are impressed that they can get “big gas savings” (a statement with an amusing homophone) if they become a Kmart “Shop Your Way” member.

The video has over a million views on YouTube already.

4. Hello Bank
Un Orchestre Symphonique Piège Son Public (An Orchestra Tricks The Public)

To promote Hello Bank, the new all-digital bank in Europe, BNP Paribas tricked an audience in the Czech Republic by sending out an audience who, instead of instruments, played mobile devices.

Using flutes comprised of iPhones and drum kits comprised of iPads, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra managed to play a perfect rendition of “Carmen”. For the trick, 227 separate interfaces had to be hooked up to Wi-Fi.

5. The University of Lincoln and Harfleet and Harfleet – Chelsea Flower Show Concept

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been running this week, with many gardeners and landscapers taking home gold. The University of Lincoln, in collaboration with Harfleet and Harfleet, created a gold-winning garden, which had manoeuvrable panels controlled by Twitter.

Every time someone posted a tweet containing the hashtag
#rhschelsea one of the panels opened. Behind the panels, otherwise hidden to the public, was the garden.

Lincoln University professor Shaun Lawson said:
"The planting inside represents the exotic or unknown immaterial world of the internet, moderated and revealed by our desire for knowledge and interaction."
