Social Media Moments in the Superbowl
The Superbowl this year was a bit of a flop, apparently. For those who don't have a clue when it comes to American Football, it was clear to see just by the social media hype surrounding the event. At this point, the Superbowl has ceased to be just a sporting event, it's just as much the halftime show. the adverts and the social media reaction as well. And as disappointing as the game was for fans, the social media side of the Superbowl did not fail to entertain.
Last year, Twitter reported that it had almost 24.1 million tweets during the Superbowl. Compare that to the more than 24.9 million tweets that circulated the game this year, and its pretty evident there's going to be some entertaining stuff going round. From marketing ploys, to interesting outfits, and impressive plays, you could even say that there were more people online than were actually watching the game. Let's take a look at some of the more unusual winning social media moments of the Superbowl 2014:
1. J. C. Penney acted all drunk on Twitter, eventually revealing that they were 'tweeting in mittens'. The misspelt words were in fact due to some very warm, chunky mittens. They managed to catch the attention of many on Twitter, and who knows, they may experience an increase in mitten sales in the upcoming weeks.

2. Free WiFi... almost! CBS accidentally posted the Superbowl security's WiFi password on national TV just before the start of the superbowl, possibly making the many fans in attendance feel a tad unsafe. The blunder was soon viral, causing many to question the claim that the security unit was "secret, [the] first of its kind".

3. Coca-Cola made its way into the social media storm after releasing another memorable ad. The 'It's Beautiful' advert features the 'America, the Beautiful' song, but sung in seven different languages. The advert caused an uproar, with #SpeakAmerican and #boycottCoke soon trending on Twitter. There were as many people defending the ad as were criticising it, with some pointing out the huge linguistic diversity of the country. Either way, Coca-Cola has gained huge publicity from the advert, with many talking about the brand... in lots of different languages.

4. Hilary Clinton makes the most of the Superbowl to make a jokey comment about FOX News. The Secretary of State sent the tweet just as the Seahawks were beating the Broncos, with a 36-0 lead. She sent the tweet in response to the huge media coverage she has been receiving of late. The tweet was retweeted over 57,000 times, gaining her a lot of coverage for her snipe at FOX.

6. Possibly the cutest social media stir of the Superbowl 2014, Budweiser really hit the hammer on the head with their #BestBuds advert. You only have to mention the word 'puppy' to get some people teary-eyed, so the heart-break separation of a puppy and a horse quickly won hearts.
