Facebook noticed the policy violations after a routine audit, which monitors Facebook's partners activity and makes sure they are in compliance with their contracts. The audit was conducted by a third-party company. According to AdExchanger, which reported the story, the companies were holding on to information longer than permitted in the Facebook contracts and also failed to require that their advertisers notify users about any changes to their data collection.
The partner companies helped Facebook to measure app installations and app-based revenue. Facebook has cut ties with the two companies, HasOffers and Kontagent, leaving 11 who remained within check of the policy agreements.
The strict measures are a reminder to the world that Facebook is taking privacy seriously. Given their recent birthday celebrations, and the announcement of their future strategy for the next 10 years, they want to maintain a good reputation in the online world.
Facebook commented on the cuts in a statement, "After working with a third-party auditor to review the practices of all our mobile measurement partners, we discovered that some weren't adhering to the terms they agreed to. As a result, we've removed a couple of our partners from the program. We take our contracts seriously, and will continue to act swiftly anytime we find out they are being violated".
The cut is a pretty big deal for HasOffers and Kontagent, who will now lose out on Facebook's rapidly-growing mobile ad business. Neither company commented on the issue.
