Students Use Twitter's RT Tool To Bag Deals From Their Teachers
Social media can move mountains!
The power of social media: it can seemingly make us do a lot of crazy things but now it seems students are beginning to use it to evade the ultimate student headache: their exams. Twitter has long been the face of many a campaign over it’s 8 year existence with over 58 million tweets being sent out daily and now with this latest scheme coming from the Twittersphere, there's no denying it's gaining power fast.
While Twitter has many uses to spread the word, it also has it’s many creative and persuasive ones too. In a desperate bid to skip their final exams and assignments, some students are now taking to Twitter to get the world on their side.
With exam pressure mounting, students taking their finals are now discovering a slightly more creative way that the social network can work for them. They are exchanging deals with teachers to skip their exams and assignments if they are able to bag a certain number of RT’s (retweets) on the site, and in some cases, it has remarkably paid off as the Twittersphere soon responded retweeting the students photos, some within hours of upload putting a smile on many a students face.
The students' tweets followed a common theme: each included a picture of them shaking hands and ‘sealing the deal’ with the teacher in question alongside a tagline outlining what deal had just been made along with their desperate pleas to retweet their picture. One successful deal came from a student whose teacher had agreed to give her class a pizza party if they received 1,000 retweets. Luckily for the class they got their wish, passing the 1,000 mark within 3 hours of posting and their teacher even tweeted congratulating them on their successful bet. But, unfortunately, with the pizza place not open at the time, the students had to settle for doughnuts and Kolaches instead — still, not such a bad deal considering!

Another deal came from one student who asked for not just a compromise on their class's finals exam, but a deal to bag no finals exam at all… providing they got 1,500 retweets first, of course. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the tweeted plea surpassed it’s 1,500 retweets quota and made it to 1,630 retweets within hours of uploading the request. It isn’t known whether the students really did get their wish, but what is clear is the growing power and prominence sites like Twitter are having in our lives and the sheer scale of influence they could potentially have. It seems like we are not only using social media to see what the world is up to and what is new, but also as an influential space — all through one click, one request and one tool alone: the 'Retweet' button.
If students are able to arrange deals like evading exams online, it begs the question what ever could be next?
