Oscar Winning Director The Latest To Slam And Shun Social Media

Social media has increasingly been very much the centre of attention; whether they are using you as a guinea pig for their latest anthropological research, finding themselves in the middle of the latest world controversy or leaving users feeling inadequate. Social media, while gaining more and more power by the day, it is still somewhat like the marmite of the modern world; you either love it, or you hate it. 

James Cameron has had many successes over the years and has been the brains behind the biggest box office smashes of all time - a couple of which have been very technology and new world based (most notably Avatar, Terminator and Aliens). However, off screen, Cameron is said to be completely against the notion of social media and smartphones.

The Oscar winning director says he does not even own a smartphone, saying that he thinks the people glued to them are "missing out on life." 

He adds, "I just see it as a ball and chain. I don't want to be available to the world." he also says that due to the ironic unsocial nature of smart phones, he has made a conscious decision to stay away from them saying he refuses to spend all of his time looking down at a device.

When asked about his opinions of the social networking site Twitter, he said that despite having an account, he hates it, "What can you say in 140 characters? I can't even clear my throat in 140 characters."

And Facebook? He doesn't even have an account.

While he isn't a whizz in the social media world, he proves he can still be a whizz in the virtual world- or the world of Pandora to be precise. He has revealed that he will make not 1, not 2, but 3 Avatar sequels that will be shot in New Zealand.

The world has been waiting for the news of the anticipated Avatar sequel since the first film was released back in 2009 and it seems like fans will have to wait until at least Christmas 2016 for the next instalment from Pandora.
