Cat Selfies Finally Find A Use!
Eye Of The Tiger
We’ve saturated social media with countless cat memes and videos, but spare a few moments for these latest cat fanatics - it's for a good cause!Last Tuesday saw nearly 40 million mentions on Twitter for the Cats Save Tigers campaign, an online operation organised on behalf of Greenpeace to raise awareness of the eradication of wild tigers.
Famous internet cat sensations like Lil Bub, Princess Monster Truck and Hamilton the Hipster Cat all got involved in the campaign; Captain Pancake stole the show, with a cat-tastic haul of over 75k likes and 3.42k comments on @cats_of_instagram for this pic below:
The campaign not only highlights the suffering of endangered tigers (there are only 3,200 left living in the wild), but it also shows how internet trends can be harnessed to raise awareness of real-world issues. The campaign has an estimated Twitter reach of over 35 million, and over 5,000 memes have been created so far. Within hours of launching, #CatsSaveTigers was trending on Twitter.
