It's a rare thing to find a celebrity that does not have a Twitter account, or any accounts on social media websites. Celebrities love to use their Twitter or Instagram to 'discreetly' endorse a product or promote a film. However, if you type Jennifer Lawrence into the Twitter search bar, only fake accounts and parodies appear, but not that elusive blue tick.Over the summer, more than 500 personal pictures were stolen from celebrity's phones, most of them not fully clothed, and posted on the image-sharing website 4chan. Among the victims of this hack, nicknamed 'Celebgate' or the 'Fappening', was Kate Upton, Kaley Cuoco and Jennifer Lawrence.
When this happened, Jennifer Lawrence stayed out of the public eye, seemingly in shame, while her nude pictures were being viewed by the internet. And then she finally spoke up, and she didn't apologise. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke up and wasn't going to be shamed by a few hackers: “Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this,” she says. “It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world. ” Yes, Jlaw.
“I’m not very good on phones or technology. I cannot even keep up on e-mail so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don’t really understand what it is. It’s like this weird enigma that people talk about, and it’s fine, I respect that, but no, I’ll never get a Twitter, and if you ever see a Facebook or Instagram or Twitter that says it’s me, it most certainly is not.”
She finally added that the internet "had scorned her". I don't blame her.
It's refreshing to see a famous person not on social media, and not littering the internet with pointless selfies. Unlike Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence doesn't need instagram or Twitter to be famous.
