17 Year Old Hopes To Take Social Media By Storm
And Another One
There’s a new app, developer or website which hopes to take
social media by storm at least once a week in this world. None however, are
quite as young as Max Beaumont.

Max Beaumont who is only 17 is nearing completion on his new
social media app called ‘Chains’.
He’s hoping that through this app he’ll be able to establish
himself as a new social media mogul as we go into 2015. At the age of 12 he
established and built an award winning game for tablets called ‘Project
Boom’.
He aims to have the app up and running by the time he finishes
high school and so far it looks like he’s well on track to reach his goal.
The Chains app will allow users to record videos that last
up 10 seconds which they can then send onto their followers and friends. Sounds
a bit too similar to Vines at the moment, right? The key difference is that
with Chains users will be able to add on another 10 seconds to the video they receive
and will then be able to send that on, essentially creating a chain of videos,
which is where the name comes from.
I can’t seem to understand the need for a social media app
such as Chains, but then again I never really understood why we needed
Instagram, Snapchat and Vines when they first launched. So I’ll withhold too
much judgement until we actually see it live.
At just 17 years old, you’d assume his young age would be a hindrance
to getting himself started; Beaumont however claims this is his strongest
aspect. He told Forbes:
‘I am in this really creative period in my life right now. I
am the target demographic. In ten years, I won’t be in the same position. Right
now is the time to capitalize on that. It worries me that when I am in my
twenties and thirties I will have to find a real job if one of these projects
doesn't work.’
I do disagree with Max on this point. The demographic is
going to be ever changing, especially with the younger generations. Facebook
and Twitter and this entire social media craze will stick with us as we grow
up. It’s just times changing. So I don’t think that there’s too much to fret
about in terms of running out of time.
Launch is finally in the near distance.. Thanks to @jedbridges for the awesome branding for @TheChainApp! More soon! pic.twitter.com/Se0W7aLVlV

The app is set to launch later this month and Beaumont hopes
to hit 10,000 subscribers by summer alone. He claims that he wants to create a
space where users to more than just ‘add each other’ and wants them to engage
with all of their connections.
I wish him all the best, but I can’t help but feel that his
thoughts over social media and his new app are just a tad shallow. There is
engagement across all forms of social media, it is how it thrives and stays
constant in our lives.
But I did say I’d reserve judgement, so let’s just wait see
how the launch goes.
