WhatsApp Rings In The New Year With Impressive Figures
droid-life.com |
So do you use WhatsApp? Based on these new figures it would
be safe to assume that you probably do. I've still not sorted it out. I really
need to, it’s one of the best ways to stay in people, especially who are
abroad. There, it’s downloading now. Very
productive day for me.
Either way, WhatsApp’s CEO and CO-Founder, Jan Koum has
begun the New Year with a Facebook post highlighting the apps usage figures and
they’re quite impressive.
Here’s what Koum posted:
‘I hope you all had a happy and peaceful holiday season. Today, we’re thrilled to share that WhatsApp has more than 700 million monthly active users. Additionally, every day our users now send over 30 billion messages. As humbled and excited as we are by these numbers and our continued growth, we’re even more excited to keep building a great product in 2015. Most of all, we’re grateful that so many of you are using WhatsApp to stay in touch with your friends and family, business colleagues and classmates. We promise to continue working hard to make WhatsApp even better.’
You’re reading that right, 700 million users and over 30 billion messages a day. I’m pretty
sure that’s even more than the stupid game messages I send to my friends every
day. It’s safe; I’ve only sent about 3 so far. In fact, with 30 billion messages sent per day, that’s around 4
messages for every single person on the planet.
Early last year, Facebook picked up WhatsApp
for $16 Billion and since the acquisition
WhatsApp have still been steadily increasing their numbers and were coined to
hit 1 Billion users before Facebook. There was no toppling the social media
King however as Facebook sits
comfortably on 1.35 Billion users, nearly double what WhatsApp’s new
figures show.
It’s safe to say that the world of messaging apps is going
to continuously skyrocket. I’d assume that within the next few years, texting
will become an extinct concept as more and more people turn to newer ways to
message.
To cap this off, Take a look at some of these big numbers in
social media:
Facebook: 1.35 billion users
WhatsApp: 700 million
Messenger: 500 million
Instagram: 300 million
Want to know the kicker? Mark Zuckerberg owns all of them.
Insane – I barely even own my own phone.
