Wouwi: Social Media For Your Pets
‘Rubs’
It was only a matter of time, wasn't it? There are already
many social media accounts completely dedicated to certain animals or pets. I
uploaded a picture of my old hamster a few weeks ago and within a few hours I
was followed by two Instagram accounts which were made to seem as though they
were run by a hamster themselves. I mean that’s just silly, how would it take
selfies with such tiny paws?

Hoping that they've analysed a gap in the social media
market, Spanish co-creators Enrique Navarro and Jesus Bernad have created
Wouwi, the social media network for your pets. I would download it to give a
whirl, but I’m still getting used to WhatsApp which I downloaded yesterday.
Furthermore, the app is currently only in Spanish, so I won’t have much luck
with it. I can still only ask for two beers in Spanish. Much to my Spanish
girlfriend’s annoyance. (Sorry Sarah). So I’m getting all my information from
their start-up page on IndieGogo.
You can download it now onto your iPhone or Android It works
just like a Facebook essentially, but obviously it’s designed so that only pets
can have profiles.
Once your pets profile is up and running you can find pets
who are close to you, create groups, send messages and ‘create bonds of
friendship’.
You’ll also be able to do all the typical Facebook stuff
like making statuses, expressing moods and dropping comments on the status that
cat three doors down left where he talked about the current
political climate and tuna. Those damn stray cats coming over here and
scratching his posts.
Instead of liking a status or accidentally sending a poke to
that person you haven’t spoken to in years, the two are replaced by ‘Rubs’.
Yes, that’s right, ‘Rubs’. If that isn't creepily weird I don’t know what is,
but then again most of this app seems a bit odd to me so far. To make
everything just that little bit weirder your pets can get married to other pets
through the app. I think my dog would only want to marry her blanket, never
seen an animal hump something so much in my life.

If all of this seems like something you can’t live without,
you can head over to their start-up
page and get donating. In just over a week they've amassed $1,625 of their
rather huge $150,000 target. That seems a bit optimistic to me, but we all know
how giddy people get about their pets. (Stop judging me).
Donating large amounts results in bonus rewards and Wouwi
points which can be redeemed in their store which isn't anywhere near
completion yet. They’re also working on a Wouwi necklace which you can give to
your pet which will work in conjunction with the app, probably to help relocate
your pet. Or to just give it a bit of style.
So, if you fancy it (and can speak a bit of Spanish)
download Wouwi and sort out an account for your pets. I’m sure everything is
desperate to know what’s on your rabbits mind.
I bet it’s thinking about digging.
