Anonymous Hack ISIS
#OpISIS
In an ongoing cyber feud, hacktivist collective Anonymous have hacked prominent ISIS sites and social media accounts.
Anonymous’ ongoing #OpISIS (Operation ISIS) campaign has now
resulted in cyber-attacks on ISIS’s recruitment efforts on Twitter and other sites.
The hackers have managed to breach hundreds of email accounts and social media
profiles.
ISIS has yet to respond to the attack. See, here’s one thing
I’ll never be happy about. I very strongly dislike how we've called them
ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State. I find it mortifying that we even consider the terms ‘Islam’
and ‘State’ when speaking about them. They’re not Islamic. They’re not a state.
They’re nothing more than terrorists and should only ever be named as such.
In Anonymous’ statement they say that:
‘ISIS, we will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts,
emails and expose you... You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure.
We own the internet. Remember – the terrorists that are calling themselves
Islamic State (ISIS) are not Muslims.’
Anonymous went on to say that they come from all
ethnicity, religions and walks of life.
‘We are Muslims, we are Christians, we are Jews, we are
hackers... We come from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity. We are
hackers, crackers, hacktivists, phishers, agents, spies, or just the guy from
next door. We are students, administrators, workers, clerks, unemployed, rich,
poor. We are young, or old, gay or straight. We wear smart clothes or Uggs. We
come from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity. United as one,
divided by zero. We are Anonymous.’
Yeah, you read that right. They divided by zero and they’re
packing Uggs.
You can take a look at the full released statement on
PasteBin here.
Here's the video statement that Anonymous released as well:
You can also see in the statement that Anonymous included a long list of accounts of people who they claim have been in touch
with the terrorists. Considering that the terror group utilises social media as
one of its main recruitment tools, it will be interesting to see just how far
an attack like this will set them back. Here’s hoping it’s a huge setback for
them.
Anonymous have always been at the forefront of hacking
rather nasty folk. They hit out at The Klu Klux Klan last year following up on
threats that they made regarding the Ferguson protests.
Following on from the tragic and brutal murder of the
Jordanian pilot last week, I can only hope that every action taken against the
terror group is swift, just and humiliating.
Though the world can never truly stamp out extremism as it
lives on as an ideal, rather than a group, the sooner we’re rid of these
cowards the better.
