ZombieTweet – A Delayed Fuse for Twitter
Live tweeting can cause all kinds of issues. If you’re
behind on a TV show, need to stay in the dark about a sports result or just
have such a strong, fast-paced feed that even a few hours away can cause you to
miss reams of interesting, funny or even crucial tweets, it’s a bit of a
nightmare.

Now a team of web and mobile software developers have come
up with a solution: ZombieTweet. Once active, the application will ‘record’ all
the tweets which appear on your feed relating to a subject matter of your
choosing, The Walking Dead, for example.
While this mode is active you won’t see any of the pertinent tweets on your
feed, then when you've watched the episode or whatever else, press ‘play’ and
up they pop.

Beyond spoiler-blocking, this concept has wider, more
interesting implications. Journalists could use it to compile data for a news
post, compile all the most relevant responses to a particular event or just
weave a particularly vitriolic Twitter battle into a cohesive narrative.
In some ways it’s similar to ‘blacklisting’, something you
can do on Tumblr via various different apps, some official, some unofficial.
Blacklisting simply allows you to highlight tags relating to content you don’t
want to see, making it similarly useful for avoiding spoilers, but also allows
you to filter out material relating to things that don’t interest you, or even
irritate you.
ZombieTweet would also be particularly effective where NSFW
(Not Safe For Work) posts are concerned. While they aren't necessarily as
common on Twitter as they are elsewhere, NSFW posts are still a bit of a
gauntlet, so being able to keep them contained until you can get somewhere
where you can look at them without horrifying/offending/arousing anyone who
might be looking over your shoulder would certainly be useful.
The app is still currently in the alpha stage and will
likely still have the odd bug here and there, but the developers are still keen
for people to start breaking it in. You can get it for free here.
