iHeartRADIO Awards, A Truly Great Night.
nbc.com |
This year, on March 29th Jamie Foxx hosted the
second annual iHeartRADIO international music awards in the Shrine Auditorium,
Los Angeles; An event with a line-up certainly not to be missed. The evening
saw the audience serenaded by Madge, surprised by Swift’s accompanying
strumming and uplifted by Timberlake’s preemptive paternal tears.
Taylor Swift was the women of the night, taking home awards
for: Song of the Year, Artist of the Year
and Best Lyrics. In winning these
categories, Swift overtook a grumble of award-worthy candidates, including Pharrell
Williams, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, and John Legend. Now Madonna may be past the peak of her
empowering career, but when the two performed together on stage it was hard not
to compare the Artist of the year
with the girl who took the stage thirty years ago and dropped the jaws of a
pursed-lipped world with the first live performance of ‘Like a Virgin’. But times change,
the wild and strange no longer entertain the tame. Is over exposure to blame?
Or can we put it down to the violent progression of video games? Whatever the
reason, it’s nice to see those who carved the way for the modern day artists to
hold the hands of their heirs on stages, very symbolic indeed.
Justin Timberlake, for one night only, turned our sofas into
emotional roller-coasters. He brought tears to our strained eyes as he wept with
the pride and joy of being crowned Innovator
of the Year, that, and the prospect of changing diapers with his
lovely wife Jessica Biel. He was
quick to recover, and later gave us all a good cause to laugh with a delicious
display of mockery. Treading the worn steps of mister Kanye West, Timberlake tickled
us all and made for the stage to receive an award intended for Taylor. It was
truly hilarious.
Also to rock the stage was the nefarious Snoop D, O, double
G, with his crazy new track ‘Peaches ‘N’Cream. Rihanna also made a statement, descending onto the stage dressed as the
Grinch who f***** Christmas, jiving to her lavish new single "B*tch
Better Have My Money", live, on stage, for the First. Time. Ever!
