Amber Alert Plus Facebook Equals Child Brought To Safety
A few of months ago we discussed the merger of America’s National Centre for
Missing and Exploited Children and the social media site Facebook. This week we
have seen the first success of the promised partnership, having already secured
its first child back into the arms of his robbed guardian.
Amber alert has weaved itself through digital technology at
the speed of Her, from the moralising of social media to
highway alerts that display the spec and registration of cars containing
kidnappers and kids captive.
They state that:
The AMBER Alert™ Program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child.-http://www.amberalert.gov/
The deal centred around Facebook users automatically seeing any Amber Alert posts containing information on a missing child. The beauty of this agreement came in the form of an advertiser’s Holy Grail; the post would be visible to all users whether they followed the Amber Alert page or not. It was this feature that, after an evening of quiet baby-sitting, alerted John Truong to the fact that he was harbouring a kidnapped child, resulting in in said child’s secure return.

In a confusing cascade of events it came to light that
missing child, two year-old Ronnie Tran, was forcibly taken from his Mother,
following their joint kidnapping by Paternal grandmother Vien Nguyen, who later
handed herself into the police for questioning.
Nguyen was assisted by Alyssa Chang, sister of the oblivious
baby sitter and girlfriend to the toddler’s father. Between the two of them
they transported the mother and child from their home in Des Moines, Washington,
to another family home in Fife, where the pair bound the mother inside a
cupboard and preceded to move the child into the safe nest of unknowing John
Truong.
There is nothing more important than the safety of children.
As we grow old we enter into a joint appreciation that children are blameless
and new to this situation we find ourselves in, that we call the World. The
young are the most recent to have been dragged out into this world, without
permission, literally kicking and screaming. So we weathered folk feel knowing sympathy
and nostalgic empathy, and jealously protect the youth who we know will one day
become as tired, hard-wired and corrupted by routine as the rest of us.
As we know, time will do these things all by itself, so when
we hear that someone is trying speed up this process and darken what will
famously become ‘The best days of your life’, we unite to protect the
rightfully blissful innocence and ignorance of childhood.
Good job Facebook! (and of course Amber Alert too).
