Ikea Branches Out: Shelf Help to Weddings

First of all the brand’s Singapore Facebook page began a “Shelf
Help” Guru that was intended to help customers with their DIY needs. It became
a pun-tastic opportunity for Ikea to show off their home made memes and top
sense of humour.
The actual idea is to provide customers with furniture that
might help solve their sticky situations, but at the same time, they reply in
as funny way as possible.
As if all this tom foolery wasn't enough, in Sweden, Ikea
are running virtual weddings via their website.
It all happens in a group call, a bit like Skype, but it’s
called Wedding Online. Talk about a wedding on a budget.
All you need is a Facebook account to set up your wedding
and your friends need a URL link which is sent to invitees and completely
private.
The site places the faces of the bride, groom and guests on
virtual bodies in a virtual room, lavishly decorated with only Ikea’s finest. You
can pick between 4 different settings: beach, circus tent, dock or a
forest.
It’s questionable whether the service is really legitimate
or whether Ikea has just found another way to showcase their furnishings.
Each ceremony lasts six hours and is monitored by Ikea for
anything inappropriate – as if online weddings weren’t already under that
bracket.
But to make the service actually legally binding, there are
rules and the couple, the officiators and at least two witnesses must be
present…in the same room.
So it doesn't really work? But as Ikea said, it can
be used by anyone, even if they just want to have a bit of fun and a pretend
wedding.
