Snapchat’s Bright Ideas: Dylan Evans' Travel Show
I was looking through the news this morning when I saw that Dylan
Evans, a social media star has been given his big break… to host a Snapchat
travel show.
Oh.
So he’s not hosting a real show. Because, each “clip” has to be 10 seconds long, it’s limited to small screens and hardly anyone actually watches the Snapchat stories from beginning to end anyway. Besides, these travel shows first started in December 2014. So yeah, whatever. Well done Dylan.
I can’t take Snapchat right now. Maybe I’m just too old for this
sh**.

Evans had to compete against others to win the position and he swooped in and won the deal of a life time. His first trip is across the
East Coast of Australia, which is long way from his home town in Liverpool.
The star (who I had never heard of) gets about 10-20k
views per video on his channel and has a total fan base of about 250k. He seems
to have gained the majority of his virtual fame through prank calls.
I’m not sure how a travel show really works on Snapchat. I
guess it just a series of updates on a story that will make us wish we were also swimming
in The Great Barrier Reef. Just the feeling you need on a dreary Monday morning.
I know I’m being particularly cynical today, but social
media “fame” is just getting on my wick now. I think it all started when I saw Zoella
merchandise in Superdrug a few weeks ago.
Maybe I’m just bitter because my tweets don’t generate me
wonga. Or perhaps, I’m just skeptical about the world these kids are in and when they're actually going to face reality.
As if Snapchat forcing someone else’s holiday pics on me
wasn’t enough to get me to delete the app, I’ve also spent far too much of my precious time trying
to work out what Snapchat was thinking with the new sick and twisted emoji friend
rating update.
