The Social Songbird Revolution to Block Katie Hopkins
Today I am sickened that I am even writing about this woman. I really am. I had vowed never to waste my words on Katie Hopkins, I even shudder as I say her name.
But would you believe it? Hopkins has been at it again. The Sun, who call her “brilliant,” have published one of her most controversial articles to date on their website. I’m sure you've read it, so I’m not going to go into great deal about her anti-migrant rant. But you get the jist. It was bad. Really bad.
Her comments are some of the most offensive, xenophobic and racist that I’ve seen in a newspaper, in my life time. It’s horrific. She compares immigrants to cockroaches and says she wouldn't care if she saw them all die.
But this isn't really that shocking, because look who said it. Ms. Hopkins. We’re all getting a little bit bored and clearly she has to push us to the limits just to get a bit of attention. I guess I’m a little miffed that any British paper would publish this, but hey. They’re The Sun. Not a huge surprise.
The thing about old Kate is sometimes she’s tolerable but most the time you just have to shake your head in disappointment at her sheer ignorance. So why are we giving her a platform to speak on?
I suppose we all sort of enjoyed seeing Holly Willoughby nearly die of horror on This Morning. We even agreed with her when she told Chloe Madeley to put some clothes on!
Everyone has different reasons why they endure Katie. Some just watch for bare lols, some because they want to believe she will change, maybe it is to see her be put in her place or perhaps they want to award themselves a humble pat on the back for being a better human being than her.
But talking about African migrants like this… I think she has pushed it one notch too far. She has surpassed her usual controversy and has moved into a much scarier area: racism.
After what we’ve all been saying about her, I think it is finally time to take away Katie’s platform.
I’ve heard it said before, but how do we do it? Russell Brand says we should love her because she must be in pain to talk like that: she has a family who loves her, that is not my job.
Reasoning with her and debating with her didn’t work. Firing sheer abuse at her seemed to make her stronger. So what can you do?
You can join the Social Songbird Revolution and block Katie (I’ve already forgotten her surname).
