Top Apps for March 2015
Wondering what to download next? Here's a list of apps that came out this month, which you simply have to try.
The Creative Ones
The Fun Lovers
The Helpful Ones
GoGoBot
The Up and Coming One
ARWatch
The point of this app is to simply try on the Apple watch
using augmented reality. All you have to do is print out a little tracker and
stick it on your wrist and voila, you can try it on in both the 38 mm and 42 mm
size, as well as try on a variety of
colours.
Only problem, it isn’t on the app store and it is only on
iPhones, obviously!
This video is really helpful if you want to work out how to
download the app: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPwrUXrw2c
Google Calendar
It’s simple to us, interactive, colourful and works a little
like a social network. Easily the most useful calendar app, I’m just surprised
it’s taken so long for Google to make it into an app.
Available on both iOS and Android.
The Creative Ones
Darkroom
Handy photo editing software very similar to the desktop PC
version Light Room. You can use preset filters and even make your own, but if
it’s filters you’re after maybe wait for the next one…
Filters for iPhone
Yep, you guessed it. Filters, filters as far as the eye can
see. There are over 800 to pick from. Perfect for any of you filter lovers.
iOS only.
The Fun Lovers
In the game department I just want to let you know that
there are two unmissable games this month.
Alien Star Menace
In this classic arcade style game, your ship is under alien invasion.
If you like strategy games, this is
perfect for you.
This one’s a little less strategy based, would you believe. In
a similar fashion to Flappy Bird, you are tap,tap tappin’ your way through
obstacles. What I liked about Crossy Road is A. It’s not as impossible as
Flappy Bird, so it’s far more satisfying and B. the endless, unlockable
characters that bring whole new dimensions to the game.
Available on both iOS and Android.
CARROT Weather
This is your average accurate weather app but it is depicted
using a hilariously sassy voice. CARROT
does a range of similar apps including rude alarm clocks and aggressive to do
lists – all are great fun, but they do cost about £2.
iOS only.
The Helpful Ones
Swipes
If you’re looking for a To Do List that won’t shout at you,
then Swipes is perfect. The brand new app
is allows you to set tasks for the day which can be organized into a timeline.
Swipe one way to mark your task as done and the other way to “snooze” the task,
to be completed at another time.
Available on both iOS and Android.
Ever been filling out a form on your phone and then you see
that dreaded *sign here* section. You try to draw one that doesn’t look shaky
on an app, you consider taking a photo of your signature in a desperate attempt
to avoid printing the form out, but there’s not no way...
Well that was until Fill & Sign. Simply tap to enter
text in any field.
Available on both iOS
and Android.
Scannable
By Evernote
Leading on from Fill & Sign, is Scannable: the quickest,
easiest way to scan and share documents. Simply scan using your camera then crop
and rotate the document before sharing it via email/message/through the app.
iOS only.
GoGoBot
Keep track of events going on in your area, use the Stay,
Eat or Play categories to narrow your search and have live discussions with
others doing the same thing as you (This part obviously depends on the app’s
popularity).
Available on both iOS and Android.
The Up and Coming One
Periscope is a live streaming app that works through
Twitter. It allows you to watch and broadcast live videos from all over the
globe. The videos will stay online for 24 hours before disappearing, a bit like
Snapchat. Periscope should not be
mistaken for Meerkat, a key difference being that Meetkat’s doesn’t belong to
Twitter and its videos are live and once the broadcast finishes, that’s it,
they’re gone.
Available on both iOS and Android.
Megan Herdson
Megan
is a country girl who moved to the city with some big dreams. She is
studying her MA in Creative Writing whilst also managing an American
Football Team. She loves her blog and wants nothing more than to have
her words read. That and to win the Championship, obviously. Follow her @MeganAtSMF
