Facebook Adding Games to Messenger

According to The Information, Facebook has been busy discussing gaming plans with developers over the last few months. The word is that the social media giant could be adding a mobile gaming service to their Messenger application and it has just been too much for any avid Candy Crushers out there!
Facebook’s standalone Messenger app has been around for 4 years now – wow that makes me feel old, I thought it was a new thing… But any who, it has only been over the last few months that Facebook have really stepped up their game.
They have really worked hard on the app, updating and developing it until to get that perfect, user-friendly, crisp interface that we know so well today. It also wasn’t that long ago that they released a clever video call service to shun Skype out the race.
But can games bring any more to an app that is already very successful, with over 600 million monthly active users?
And more importantly, how would these Messenger games work?
I remember the days when MSN had games. I think you could play noughts and crosses, am I right? The world was a less developed place then, mind you. I can see a word game like Scrabble taking off on this platform. What about Battleships? Yes. That would be perfect.
Facebook haven’t actually confirmed anything about these games yet. Which sucks.
But they have released a very vague (and hopeful) statement saying that the Messenger platform is open to all developers to see what interesting ideas come up, “From there, we’ll think about what else might make sense.” Games. That would make perfect sense!
There would definitely be something in it for Facebook too. Mobile gaming is where the money is at these days. Just look at the top grossing apps in the store: Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, etc. I think Facebook would be silly to miss this opportunity and I would totally love playing games live with my Candy Crush cronies.
