Wiith App - The Tinder for Friends
Ever wanted to meet new people online without having the
pressures of having casual sex with that stranger lingering over you? Then Wiith could be the app for you.
Wiith is a free app that is currently only available on iOS.
It is designed to help you find new friends and organise events with them.

I know it sounds a bit sad, but give it a chance. The app is set up to help you find
companions with similar interests. I know many of us already have our friends,
but there is a growing number of young people who are moving abroad with little
more than a rucksack and Smart Phone.
The app is a bit like Facebook in the respect that you can “create
events,” but instead of inviting people, you have to wait for them to request
to join in.
Then in a Tinder-esque fashion, the event creator gets to
swipe left/right to accept/decline users into the event. Brutal, eh? I’m not sure if that would really stop a dedicated
party crasher from coming, but anyway…
You can specify how many spaces you have available for your
event, because having 30 turn up for afternoon coffee might get a little
complicated.
If you don’t fancy starting up an event yourself, you can still
browse through the events in your local area.
Other features involve “following” people who you think are
interesting. This way you can see when they make a new event and get involved
straight away. There is also an in-app messaging service so you can communicate
with these friends-to-be .
You will also have a rating, but not based on your looks or
anything like that…it’s based on your reliability. As in, how often do you
stand people up.
It hasn’t really taken off yet in any city other than San Francisco,
but it might be worth a try.
The only reviews on the Apple store have been quite negative
so far. One user complained that you can’t log in without a Facebook account,
which I suppose isn’t very handy. The other couldn’t get the app to even start
up.
The only other review was requesting to specify sexualities and
genders of users. But I think that person might have missed the point a little.
I don’t see why this app can't take off, but it will need
a few more than its current 1000 users to do so. Overall, I think there’s something quite
sweet about the idea and providing it doesn’t get soiled with a Tinder-like
reputation then we might finally have an app for meeting genuine people on.
And as long as Tinder is around to keep all the horny teenagers at bay, then I doubt this app will take a hard right down Sordid Street or Dodgy Drive any time soon.
