Facebook Teams With HBO to Host Premiere Episodes
The battle between Facebook and YouTube for domination of the online video market continues to heat up with the announcement that Facebook have made a new deal with US broadcaster HBO.
The deal gives Facebook the right to host series premieres of at least 2 upcoming comedy titles from HBO, namely "Ballers", which stars wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and "The Brink", starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins.
The agreement is seen as a big win for both parties. HBO will undoubtedly benefit from the mass exposure the social network can provide, whilst for Facebook this will serve as an opportunity to fully test and refine its video capabilities, alongside further cementing their position within the field. If this trial run goes well, you can expect to see more and more premieres and episodes popping up within the walls of Facebook.
As it stands, Facebook and YouTube are fairly even in terms of audience, with YouTube being home to 1.3 billion monthly active users, while Facebook is sitting pretty on 1.4 billion. With the announcement of this deal however, along with their other video hosting initiatives, we may start to see the balance shift increasingly toward Facebook.
You can find "The Brink" on the show's official page, while "Ballers" is hosted by leading man Dwayne Johnson.
