Facebook's Oculus Rift Gets Sued for Fraud
Oculus Rift founder, Palmer (not so) Luckey, is being sued for breaking a confidentiality agreement from a previous employer.
Palmer Luckey is the genius behind the ground breaking
virtual reality headset, Oculus Rift. However, he is now at the risk of being sued
because his previous employer, Total Recall Technologies, claims he used
information and feedback that he gained from working for their company in 2011,
in order to refine the Oculus headset.

With Oculus Rift having just sold to Facebook for $2bn in
March, things could get pretty hairy. Total Recall Technologies say that Luckey
signed a non-disclosure agreement and that he has been passing off their
research as his own.
Oculus VR have denied the allegations and released a
statement which said “The case is
meritless and we will vigorously defend ourselves.”
Not so big, Hawaiian company, Total Recall Technologies are
being brave coming up against Oculus VR’s giant social media owner. Especially
considering the fact that Oculus already had some legal allegations made around
the time of the Facebook sale.
The opposing company was called ZeniMax and they
accused Oculus of “misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement,
breach of contract, unfair competition, unjust enrichment, trademark infringement
and false designation.” That’s a lot of legal jargon, so let us break it down:
Basically, ZeniMax turned down an opportunity to invest in Oculus and later
regretted that decision.
ZeniMax were left ridiculed after they were told that
the performance was an obvious attempt to take advantage of the Oculus VR sale
to Facebook.
The complaint involving TRT has been filed with the US District
Court in California. They will be represented by Quinn Emanuel Urquhart &
Sullivan, an infamous global law firm, known to handle business for Google! It
is only a matter of time until we see how Oculus will suit up in court and how the
situation unfolds. I wonder if Luckey will live up to his name and slither through yet another accusation.
