Sepp Blatter: FIFA President Shamed by British Comedian
buzzfeed.com |
British comedian Simon Brodkin – better known as the character
Lee Nelson from his BBC3 comedy series Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show – gained
entry to a FIFA press conference and threw a pile of dollar bills over FIFA
president Sepp Blatter’s head on Monday.
Blatter had sat down at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich to
announce the date of the extraordinary congress to decide who will replace him
when Brodkin crashed the conference in the guise of another one of his
characters from the show, Scouse footballer Jason Bent. Blatter stepped down in June after FIFA was indicted on charges of wire fraud, racketeering, and money laundering following an investigation into the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Later, Brodkin joked on Twitter that he was bidding for North Korea for the 2026 World Cup.

In a video of the prank, the comedian can be heard saying ‘Here
you go, Sepp’ before he showers Blatter with a handful of cash. He is then
escorted off the stage by security as a bemused Blatter delays the conference
until the mess is cleared, saying: ‘This has nothing to do with football.’
This is not the first high-profile prank attempted by
Brodkin. In 2013, he dodged security and
mingled with players on the pitch during the warm up at a Premier League match between
Manchester City and Everton. Last year, he posed as Jason Bent again when he attempted
to join England’s World Cup squad on a flight to Miami from Luton airport.
Dressed in a suit and tie to match the squad, the interloper was spotted and taken
away as the real players looked on in bemusement.

In June, Brodkin invaded the stage at Glastonbury during
Kanye West’s headline set. He tweeted afterwards that the prank was dedicated to
Taylor Swift, whose acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 was
hijacked by Kanye, who said: ‘Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna
let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!’ Brodkin was
removed from the stage and Kanye was forced to call a halt and restart his
performance of Black Skinhead.
