Jessica Alba's Honest Co. Controversy - It Honestly Doesn't Work!
When you run a business with a name like The Honest Company, you really should make sure any claims you make stand up to scrutiny. On that front, Alba's all-natural brand has fallen short, at least with their sunscreen range.
Twitter has been lighting up with outraged customers lambasting the brand, furious over the ineffectiveness of their product. Pictures are now flooding social media, showcasing some pretty nasty burns and claiming that the Honest Co. range was to blame.
Honest Co. have already been on the receiving end of a bit of abuse due to claims of making false assertions regarding their rival products, as featured in the New York Post a month ago. I can't imagine that making much of a dent in their profits, but they may have to tread carefully for the time being.

@Honest this is my very real result from Honest 30 SPF sunscreen. Only spent 1 hour outside. Burnt. #nothappy #red pic.twitter.com/T42TNeg5mj

For a company that markets itself as being 'safe and eco-friendly', they simply haven't lived up to expectations. Honest Co. representatives did issue a statement assuring customers that "the number of complaints received on our own website about
our Sunscreen Lotion constitute less than one half of one percent of all units
actually sold at Honest.com. We
stand behind the safety and efficacy of this product."
My best friend used @jessicaalba #honest #sunscreen - after about 40 minutes in the sun she looks like this #SunBurn pic.twitter.com/Nwszxr9uRZ

Unfortunately, their own website is not the only source of distribution, with shopping sites such as Amazon receiving numerous complaints on the product page. The problem seems to lie with the zinc content (a crucial ingredient in sunscreen, industry standards dictate 18-25%), which Honest Co. chose to drop to a concentration of just 9.3%. The company assured its customers that they had added other ingredients to counteract the effects of reducing the zinc, but it seems to have failed. The result is a potentially dangerous product, especially to those at risk of skin conditions like melanoma.Honest Co. have already been on the receiving end of a bit of abuse due to claims of making false assertions regarding their rival products, as featured in the New York Post a month ago. I can't imagine that making much of a dent in their profits, but they may have to tread carefully for the time being.
