LinkedIn Show Off their Enviable New Australia HQ
We've all heard the stories that have been circulating for years about the innovative office spaces used by the likes of Google and Facebook. They're known to shun the corporate feel in favour of an energetic, fun approach that they have long maintained boosts staff happiness and, by extension, productivity. Now, not wanting to be outdone, LinkedIn have unveiled their version - a new Australian HQ packed full with smoothie machines, table tennis, retro arcade games and even a cinema!
When it came to designing the new HQ LinkedIn put the question to their staff, asking them to make recommendations on how to improve their working environment. As a result, the office has taken on a distinctly Australian vibe. Vibrant artwork and swathes of green plant-life adorn the walls and hang from suspended beams, and a single, standing-only desk winds through the office in a form reminiscent of the nation's famed snake population. Even their huge logo has been constructed out of sandals, or 'thongs' if you're a true Aussie.
The Aussie theme carries on beyond visuals and into the kitchen, where a daily selection of fresh fruit can be found alongside a 'smoothie station', coffee makers and even an in-built BBQ! I can feel myself turning green with envy as a continue to write this article, all we have is a toastie maker...
The staff room comes fully equipped with many additions you wouldn't expect to see in a corporate office. Staff can unwind with a quick game of table tennis, or settle down to play the likes of 'Daytona' or 'Pac Man' on vintage arcade machines. Fancy something a little less active? Employees are free to make use of the new cinema, which doubles up as a live-action sports arena when not being used for conferences.
The new look has been formulated in an attempt to encourage informal discussion and a positive work ethic among colleagues, which has seemed to work for other tech & social companies in the past. Now I know that, in theory, this aims to boost productivity, but with so much going on around them how they find any time to actually work is a mystery.
