WhatsApp on Android Gets Custom Notifications and More

You can now decide whether your phone plays a tone or
vibrates, and even customise the length of a vibration so that you can tell
exactly who is messaging you. You can also change the notification light
colour. To use custom notifications, tap on a contact’s name to bring up contact
info and you’ll see a ‘use custom notifications’ toggle.
The update also brings a ‘mark unread’ option that allows
you to mark a chat as unread by just tapping and holding any conversation. This
won’t let you pretend not to have seen a message that someone has sent you, but
you can flag certain chats as unread as a reminder that you should go back to
them next time you’re online. There’s also a low data usage option for voice
calls, which can be useful when you’re somewhere with limited connectivity. You
can opt in for low date usage in Settings > Chats and Calls.
