Giggs and Neville Show Compassion for Squatters
DailyMail |
No-one would blame you for believing that footballers are selfish. However Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville are proving the assumption wrong with news that they are allowing squatters to remain in a building they own for the winter. The Grade II-listed Stock Exchange building in Manchester, which has set the pair back a cool £1.5 million, is due to be renovated in February 2016 into a luxury hotel and spa. In the mean time, the building has become occupied by around 30 homeless who had recently been kicked out of an office building. The ex-footballers have allowed the occupiers to stay providing they provide access for surveyors and contractors while they are there.
One protester was overwhelmed to receive a call from Gary Neville confirming his permission for them to stay inside the building. In a post to Facebook he said the following: 'I'm crying...Just go off the phone to Gary Neville. 'He's letting us stay for a few months over the winter period and he's gonna help us with intervention. I'm shaking here.' Social media has given a public applaud for the philanthropic duo: |
Giggs and Neville knew how cold it would be over winter so gave some squatters shelter over Christmas #legends #mufc

Whilst rugby is getting a bad name for bad-mouthing a ref, soccer is clearing its own. Nice one @DanielWebber81

If only more celebrities used their popularity and wealth for such charitable deeds!
