President of Buzzfeed Motion Pictures, Ze Frank, says that the site has identified three different themes of content that social media users love to share the most: 'identity', 'social experience' and 'emotional gift'. These are the areas of content that users find most relatable to themselves. From the video it is apparent that Buzzfeed and Costa have gone for an 'identity' take.
The post shows Costa customers discussing typically British things such as toasties, the pub and roast dinners - it has already received 1,500 likes on Facebook and over 500 shares. The managing director for Costa across the UK and Ireland, Caroline Harris, said: "Collaborating with Buzzfeed on a UK and European first has allowed us to engage our Facebook fans in a truly new, innovative and engaging way. As a British brand we hope the film make the people of Britain smile, like and share across both BuzzFeed and our social channels. She continued: Working with Buzzfeed was an opportunity for us to have a first to market, which is fantastic for us."
However, despite Buzzfeed's claims of success, ROI of such digital advertising can be difficult to measure and prove. The internet media company believes the only way to tackle this is through scaling up their operation and including more brand partners.
