Man Faces Up To 32 Years in Jail For Liking & Sharing Photo on Facebook

The charges brought against the mechanic, 27, include sedition, lese majeste and more generic 'computer crimes'. Colonel Burin Thongprapai, a military junta legal officer, said of the incident: "On December 2, he clicked the 'like' link on a doctored photo of the king and shared it with 608 friends. He is in military custody and good condition."
Convictions such as this have become increasingly frequent following the military taking power of government last year. The conditions in which prisoners such as the accused are kept have come under fire after 2 incarcerated individuals died whilst in military custody.
The Human Rights Watch in Thailand said that the use of secret military jails has "now become a new standard nationwide". A spokesman for the group said "there is nothing at all to guarantee the safety of those held incommunicado in military detention," and that without access to their families and lawyers they are "without safeguards against mistreatment".
Lawyers who are seeking to provide legal help for Mr. Thanakorn are not even aware of where he is being detained, and are concerned he may be another victim of 'enforced disappearance' in the country.
