Vivienne Westwood's #WearYourNHS T-Shirt To Support Junior Doctors
The Telegraph |
The move comes after new government plans to reclassify young doctors' working weeks with much longer hours; this plan has received widespread criticism for the unsociable work schedule and has even been deemed as 'unsafe for patients'. Many fear that the new contracts will deter more young students from studying medicine in the future. Doctors have overwhelmingly objected to the changes and 98% of those balloted called for industrial action against the proceedings.
In a bid to show their support, social media users have been doing just as Gavaghan asked, and doctors and supporters alike have been sharing their selfies in their droves.
Proceeds from the t-shirts, which cost £19, will go to medical-related charities. If you would like to purchase one, you can do so at www.wearyournhs.co.uk. Negotiations are expected in January 2016 - if the results are not favourable to the young doctors, it is likely that the NHS will face mass industrial action that was previously planned for early December of this year.
