Alan Rickman Passes Away at 69 - Social Media Reacts to the Death of a Legend
Its shaping up to be a bad week for British icons as, following the tragic death of David Bowie earlier this week, actor Alan Rickman has sadly passed away at the age of 69 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
A statement released by Rickman's family announced the devastating news:
"The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends."
Rickman, best known for his roles in hit films and franchises including Die Hard and Harry Potter, has captivated audiences with his unique style and distinctive voice since he first graced our screens way back in the early 80s. Over 3 decades in the industry helped him to perfect his approach, allowing him to secure a place among the greatest actors of his generation. Without Rickman behind the iconic characters, would Hans Gruber have seemed half as calculating? Or would Severus Snape have proved as captivating? As great as the characters themselves were, I seriously doubt it.
So, as the news broke of Rickman's passing earlier today, fans took to social media to voice their adoration and respect for the undeniably talented performer.
Twitter tributes will likely do little to ease the heavy hearts of Rickman's family and friends, but maybe seeing just how loved and respected he became in life will help them deal with their pain in some small way.
