Has Grumpy Cat been Overthrown as Queen of the Internet?
In recent developments, it seems that Grumpy Cat is no longer the best cat on social media.
Her two rivals have been gradually gaining traction over the last month, which leads us to believe that Grumpy Cat is in for some stiff competition.
Introducing Sad Cat.
...And Seriously Grumpy (spawn of the devil) Cat.
First up is Luhu, an adorable cat owned by Maggie Liu from Beijing. He has been dubbed the world's saddest cat and if I'm being honest, I do get pretty emotional staring into those big eyes.
I really didn't think anything would be as cute as Grumpy Cat or Lil Bub. But Luhu is winning the internet over with those cartoon-like eyes.
According to his owner, Luhu's eyes are the result of a major operation following an eye infection, so now "Luhu always opens his eyes pretty hard when he needs look at something," Liu explained. As long as Luhu is free from pain and can see better after his op, I have no qualms. I will quite happily get lost in those eyes.
She has 120,000 followers on her Instagram which she shares with 2 other (less animated) sibling cats and her Facebook "Luhu , the saddest Cat" has nearly 7,000 likes.
Compared to Grumpy Cat's 8.4 million Facebook likes and 1.3 million Instagram followers, Luhu still has a lot of work to do, but we believe she can go all the way. Don't you?
Okay, enough, before my heart breaks in two.
Let's look at a less adorable but equally amusing cat, also known as Koyuki.
Koyuki is a 9 year old Scottish Fold from Japan and she looks like she just took a master class in how to give us "evils." If looks could kill...
She has looks completely ...
and utterly...
EVIL!
This cat's look of contempt has gotten her over 43,000 Twitter followers and 21,300 Instagram followers. Still, she has nothing on Grumpy Cat YET, but I seriously don't know who would win a fight. I think I'd put my money on Koyuki - not that we condone animal fighting or betting in any way, it's needless and cruel. Maybe a stare-off would suffice?
