Latest on Kesha: Lady Gaga's Support & Instagram Statements
As the week has progressed, we have heard more from Kesha about her record contract case against Dr. Luke.
But what has been interesting is that both parties seem to have taken to social media to voice their opinions.
Whilst Lukasz Gottwald (Dr. Luke) had a 22 tweet-long rant online earlier in the week, Kesha took to Instagram yesterday to put her feelings into photos.
I have been fairly shocked by the social media coverage of this event. I have become accustomed to seeing breakups, bitch fights and political debates unfold over social media, but I didn't expect to see a sexual assault case.
It says a lot really for the type of world we are creating. In this social media-centric environment can anything really go unsaid, or untweeted?
Eventually a full statement was released yesterday afternoon from Kesha which broke hearts and made us all really think about what is going on here.
One line that has struck me from her official statement is this:
"Unfortunately I don't think that my case is giving people who have been abused confidence that they can speak out, and that's a problem."
Kesha, nearly the entire social media world is backing you (and the real world for that matter too). Whilst I have questioned the invasive nature of social media in cases like this, there is one clear upside to it too. You can get immediate, meaningful and powerful love and support from it. Whether it is from big names, like Lady Gaga:
or whether it is from us "nobodies" and "average" folk...
Whilst it may not feel like it to Kesha right now, this will help people come forward about abuse. She has proven how no-one will judge you for it, but instead, everyone will stand stronger than ever behind you for it.
