Murderer Profiles on Dating Apps: Would You Swipe Right?
Walker made fake accounts for cult leader and mass murderer Charles Manson circa 1969 and serial killer Aileen Wuornos circa 1989. Two totally different individuals, one of each gender with photos that are clearly old. One of Wuornos's photos is even from a court appearance and yet people didn't seem to be unperturbed. Walker decided to try the experiment after she realised that Manson actually looks like the type of hipster man popular today. Strangely enough though, it was Wuornos who got more swipes right, but that could be because more Tinder users are male then female.
The conversations these people are having with the accounts are mostly on modern things but every now and then the murderers views do pop up. Wuornos even starts a conversation saying how she'd like to kill someone today and the man just responded wondering why she felt like that. Surely you don't want to start that conversation with anyone unless you know for certain that they're joking? Tinder isn't for jokes like this though, it's for dating, hooking up and friendships and these men and women interested are clearly not as picky as they should be.

The closest either account came to being recognized by anyone who swiped yet according to what we can see - some people may have realised and Walker didn't post them after all - was someone asking Wuornos if they were Charlize Theron, who played the woman herself in the movie Monster. Some recognition isn't enough though and it would be interesting to see how it would play it out in other countries. I'm half tempted to try the experiment myself with English serial killers here in the UK but it still seems like a really weird idea.
The accounts have since been deleted so the American public don't need to worry about coming across these guys but it is definitely proof that we need to think more carefully before we swipe.
