Snapchat Boasts New Content: Plastic Surgery
Snapchat has certainly taken it to the next level through its new-found content-generators: plastic surgeons. In an effort to attract sceptical clientèle who shy away from the actual knife, Dr. Matthew Schulman is showing procedures step-by-step.
A Snapchat veteran of one year, Schulman broadcasts his surgeries by posting to the nycplasticsurg story and adding stills to Instagram. For 24 hours after posting to a Snapchat story, the content is viewable as a continuous stream of videos or photos. It is through this format that Schulman has found a way to "interact with patients and future patients", as covered by Fox News. With upwards of 35 surgeries a month, Schulman says that 90% of his patients allow him to document the procedure getting him 450,000 views daily. While he cannot personally record the operation, instead depending on nurses and assistants, the content stems from his practice in New York City.
Schulman isn't the only surgeon to hop on the Snapchat train. Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer, popularized as TheRealDrMiami, prides himself on extensively documenting surgeries with 20 to 30 minutes of footage, all divided into 10 second clips via Snapchat. A Miami-surgeon with 19 years of experience, Salzhauer turned to Snapchat after his Instagram account (90,000 followers strong) was deleted. He immediately caught on and now gets 100,000 viewers daily. Evidently, this form of desensitization has worked swimmingly, with Salzhauer booked through July 2016.
His popularity is such that he's hired people to maintain his social media profiles. Not only are people inexplicably drawn to the procedures themselves, TheRealDrMiami lives up to his name, revealing his goofy personality and winning charm through his videos. Interactions between the good doctor and patients or staff are endearingly real despite the plastic surroundings.
